Even more good stuff
Can you tell that we’re over the freaking moon for our new formula?
We think (and hope!) you will be too.
Our tablets are still made with simple, quality ingredients that are good for you and the planet. They’re still gluten-free. And they still contain zero preservatives, SLS, sodium saccharin, artificial colors, and aluminum. We’ve just tweaked the recipe to add even more of the good stuff, jettison a few things– like magnesium stearate–that your teeth don’t really need, AND make the whole experience even more like toothpaste. After many, many (MANY!) tries, we finally did it.
Ingredient List
Sorbitol is antibacterial and adds sweetness.
Microcrystalline cellulose gently polishes your teeth and helps prevent plaque from forming.
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) adjusts the pH and works as a gentle polishing agent.
Sodium cocoyl isethionate creates healthy foam.
Tapioca (arrow) root starch provides a palm oil-free binder for the tab.
Nano-hydroxyapatite remineralizes, strengthens, and protects our teeth
(fluoride-free formula only).
Natural peppermint flavor (from mentha arvensis leaf oil) and organic menthol add a cool zing of freshness.
Citric acid regulates the tablet’s pH so it’s gentle on sensitive gums.
Illite clay and bentonite clay are antibacterial and create a soft foaminess.
Stevia provides a natural, plant-based touch of sweetness.
Arabic gum gently scrubs away stains.
Vanilla bean powder gives the tablets their creamy texture and is also anti-inflammatory.
Sodium fluoride fights cavities (fluoride formula only).
Sodium alginate helps the tablets keep their shape and improves texture.
Making fluoride-free more effective
We’ve upped the ante on our fluoride-free formula by adding nano-hydroxyapatite. What is this strange-sounding ingredient, you ask? It’s none other than the very same mineral that makes up our tooth enamel. The nano particles are tiny enough to fill-in the microscopic pores of our enamel to remineralize, strengthen, and protect our teeth from cavities. Pretty cool, huh?

What you won't find in Unpaste toothpaste tablets:
(but will in most toothpaste)
Xylitol is a natural sweetener, but it’s toxic to dogs (and possibly cats, too).
Palm oil is commonly used as a binder, but its production contributes to deforestation.
Parabens are chemical preservatives that can disrupt hormones.
Artificial colors may look cool on your brush but they’ve been linked to allergic reactions.
Hydrogen peroxide and polyphosphates are used as whiteners, but can be irritating and aren’t that effective.
Propylene glycol and glycerin are used to keep toothpaste drying out but can cause irritation and allergic reactions.
It takes a lot of water to make toothpaste. While this isn’t terrible for your teeth, it’s not especially good for the planet.
Keeping fur babies safe
A lot of toothpaste and toothpaste tablets are sweetened with xylitol. Unpaste uses sorbitol and a touch of stevia instead. Why? Because xylitol is bad news for dogs–and possibly cats, too. Even a tiny amount can cause hypoglycemia, liver failure, and even death in dogs. We love our fur babies wayyy too much to take any chances.
